Mughal road remains closed as snow clearance operations continue

KINS Desk

Srinagar, Jan 07 (KINS): Snow clearance work on the strategic Mughal Road is going on at a war footing, but the road remains closed due to fresh snowfall and slippery conditions.

News agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) reported that the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), through its 79 Road Construction Company (RCC) Poonch, is making all-out efforts to reopen the road from Peer Ki Gali, which lies at an altitude of about 13,000 feet.

Traffic on the Mughal Road has been suspended since December 31 on the Shopian–Poonch stretch, including the important Poonch-to-Kashmir route via Shopian. Continuous snowfall and icy conditions have made movement unsafe for vehicles.

Despite harsh weather and difficult terrain, BRO personnel are working round-the-clock with heavy machinery to remove thick layers of snow and make the road fit for traffic as early as possible.

Officials said reopening the Mughal Road is a top priority as it is an important alternate link between the Kashmir Valley and the Pir Panjal region.(KINS)
