Srinagar, January 16 (KINS):
Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, Dr Darakhshan Andrabi, on Friday said that the verification process of Imams, Khateebs, and mosques should not be politicised, claiming that the exercise is solely aimed at safeguarding religious institutions and ensuring the welfare of those associated with them.
Dr Andrabi said there is no hidden agenda behind the verification drive and described it as a routine and necessary measure to bring transparency and accountability within the system.
She said the initiative is intended to protect the interests of mosques and religious functionaries, including Imams and Khateebs.
Expressing concern over criticism from certain political quarters, she said some politicians are misrepresenting the move as part of their propaganda. “Unfortunately, some political leaders are trying to politicise the issue for their own interests, which is misleading and unnecessary,” she said, according to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).
Dr Andrabi reiterated that the verification process is being carried out in the larger interest of the community.
She appealed to all stakeholders to cooperate with the process and refrain from spreading misinformation. (KINS)
