IGP, Div Com co-chair review meet on nasha mukt abhiyan at PCR Kashmir; 296 peddlers arrested

Srinagar, Apr 29 (KINS):Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir and Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir on Tuesday co-chaired a joint meeting at PCR Kashmir to review the progress and implementation of the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan.”

The 100-day campaign, launched by the Lieutenant Governor of J&K, aims to intensify action against drug abuse and illicit trafficking across the Union Territory through a zero-tolerance approach.

The meeting was attended by all Range Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) of Kashmir, Deputy Commissioners (DCs), Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) of all districts, JDP ZPHQ, and other senior officers.

During the meeting, district SSPs briefed the chair on ongoing anti-drug operations. They reported that sustained enforcement under the NDPS Act has led to the arrest of over 296 drug peddlers and registration of more than 281 cases, with several hotspots identified. Around 460 awareness programmes have also been conducted, particularly targeting students and the general public.

Officers further informed that illegal cultivation of contraband on about 15 kanals of land was destroyed, several chemist shops violating regulations were sealed, and properties linked to drug trafficking were identified and attached under relevant laws.

Deputy Commissioners highlighted district-level measures under the campaign, including intensified awareness drives in educational institutions, panchayats, and vulnerable areas, along with improved inter-departmental coordination.

IGP Kashmir stressed sustained and coordinated efforts to dismantle drug networks and curb substance abuse. He called for strict action against offenders, strengthening intelligence-based operations, and ensuring effective prosecution to improve conviction rates.

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir emphasized a multi-sectoral approach involving civil administration, health, education departments, and civil society. He also called for strengthening rehabilitation mechanisms and expanding grassroots awareness.

Both officials directed stakeholders to intensify efforts, enhance coordination, and adopt innovative strategies to make the campaign more effective. The meeting concluded with a renewed resolve to make Jammu & Kashmir drug-free through sustained enforcement and preventive measures.(KINS)
