Food safety department conducts intensive inspections of hotels, canteens and Govt accommodations housing move employees
Srinagar, May 18 (KINS): The Food Safety Wing of the Drugs & Food Control Organization, J&K has launched a special inspection drive across hotels, canteens and government residential facilities housing move employees to ensure the availability of safe, hygienic and quality food during the ongoing Darbar Move period.
The drive was initiated on the directions of the Commissioner, Food & Drugs Administration, J&K. Special inspection teams comprising Food Safety Officers have been constituted under the supervision of respective Assistant Commissioners, Food Safety, to carry out extensive inspections at various food establishments and accommodations hired by the Estates Department for move employees.
During the drive, inspection teams visited 14 establishments including Government Residential Quarters at Sempora, Pampore, TRC Srinagar and several hotels and accommodations leased by the Estates Department for lodging employees.
The inspecting officers directed all Food Business Operators (FBOs) engaged by the Estates Department to strictly comply with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act and Regulations. Special emphasis was laid on maintaining proper hygiene and sanitation standards as prescribed under Schedule-4 of the Food Safety and Standards Regulations.
The officials instructed the food operators to ensure the supply of fresh, hygienic and wholesome meals to employees and strictly avoid the use of synthetic food colours or any unsafe ingredients in food preparation.
The teams also sensitized food handlers and operators about safe food handling practices, cleanliness of kitchens, proper storage of raw materials and maintaining personal hygiene while preparing and serving food.
The Food Safety Department reiterated its commitment towards safeguarding public health and ensuring that employees residing in government accommodations receive safe and quality food during the move period. The department stated that such inspection drives will continue across various locations in the coming days to monitor compliance and enforce food safety regulations effectively.(KINS)
