Srinagar, Sep 10 (KINS): Police have seized six vehicles including three tractors and 3 trucks/tippers in Anantnag, Handwara and Sopore, for their involvement in the illegal acquisition, mining and transportation of minerals. The action was taken during routine patrolling and checking at police naka points as part of intensified enforcement against illegal mining activities.
In Anantnag, Police Station Achabal, while conducting routine patrolling within its jurisdiction, intercepted and seized two tractors allegedly involved in the illegal acquisition and transportation of minor minerals. The seized tractors were being driven by Shabir Ahmad Wani son of Gh Hassan Wani resident of Hard Turu Rainipora and Shabir Ahmad Bhat son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat resident of Kokernag. Cognisance of the matter has been taken and further proceedings have been initiated under the relevant provisions of law.
Similarly, Handwara Police, acting against illegal mining activities, seized two trucks found carrying illegally mined material during checking at a police naka established at Police Post Chogul. The vehicles have been taken into custody and further legal proceedings have been initiated in accordance with law.
Meanwhile in Sopore, Police seized 01 tipper & 01 tractor involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in the jurisdiction of Watergam.
J&K Police reiterated their commitment to curbing illegal mining and the unauthorized transportation of minerals. Strict action will continue against individuals and vehicles found violating the law, with the objective of protecting natural resources and ensuring effective enforcement of the applicable legal provisions.(KINS)
