Srinagar Police to organise more youth-centric events, focus on sports to keep youth away from drugs: SSP

Ishtiyaq Kar

Srinagar, Oct 17 (KINS): Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Dr G V Sandeep, on Saturday said that Srinagar Police is strengthening its civic action initiatives to engage young people in constructive activities, promote sports and steer them away from drugs.

Speaking to the media in Srinagar,as per news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), the SSP said Kashmir Police organises civic action programmes across all districts of the Valley, with special emphasis on cricket tournaments during October.

Besides cricket, the initiatives include volleyball, indoor games and debates aimed at encouraging youth participation and providing them with positive platforms to showcase their talent.

Highlighting the importance of youth engagement, the SSP said young people are the future of the country and the strength of society.

He emphasised the need to encourage them to spend more time in libraries and playgrounds rather than falling prey to drug abuse and other harmful influences.

“My personal feeling is that youth should be busy in libraries and playgrounds rather than in negative energies,” the SSP said, appealing to media organisations to support the initiative and take its message to every corner of Kashmir.

Reaffirming the police department’s commitment to youth welfare, he said Kashmir Police stands with young people and remains at the forefront of efforts to strengthen society and combat the drug menace.

The SSP congratulated and welcomed the youth participating in the ongoing activities, adding that these events would not be a one-time initiative, as more programmes are planned in the future.

He urged media personnel to actively support the civic action programmes and help spread awareness about sports, constructive engagement and a drug-free society across Kashmir.(KINS)
