Srinagar, Dec 11(KINS): Following the meeting with the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Jammu, civil society representatives in Jammu on Wednesday expressed widespread satisfaction, praising the initiative as a meaningful step towards improved governance and accountability.
The Chief Minister’s assurance to hold such meetings regularly and provide action taken reports on discussed issues has been hailed as a progressive move aimed at addressing long-standing concerns in Jammu.
One of the civil society members who met with the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah told news gathering agency KINS, “For years, the business community has faced numerous hurdles, but this meeting was different. Omar Abdullah’s willingness to engage with us directly is a sign that the government is serious about solving issues. The promise to provide action taken reports will ensure that we are not left in the dark regarding the steps being taken to address our problems.”
Similarly, another member of Jammu’s civil society said, “This is a remarkable initiative that we have been waiting for. Civil society has often been sidelined in decision-making, but this meeting was a clear indication that the government values our input. The regularity of such interactions and the assurance of transparency through updates will make us more confident that our concerns will be addressed in a timely manner.”
“There has often been a disconnect between the government and local businesses, but today’s meeting shows that Omar Abdullah is willing to bridge that gap. We have always needed a direct platform to discuss our issues, and the Chief Minister’s commitment to regular follow-up meetings with clear reports on actions taken is a game changer. This kind of dialogue will foster trust and collaboration.”
Participants from various sectors also expressed a collective hope that these meetings would result in tangible improvements in the region’s business climate, civic amenities, and overall governance. Local traders, who have often felt sidelined in policy discussions, particularly also welcomed the opportunity to directly voice their concerns.(KINS)
