Cyber police recovers 1, 55,208 in online financial fraud cases in Kupwara

Srinagar, Dec 14 (KINS): The Cyber Cell of District Police Kupwara has successfully resolved several cases of online financial fraud, recovering a total of 1, 55,208 for the victims.
In July 2024, a complaint was received regarding an online earning scam in which the victim lost ₹84,380. The Cyber Cell team acted quickly, gathering evidence and employing advanced cyber techniques to recover the full amount, which was promptly credited back to the victim’s account.
In December 2024, another case emerged involving a fraudulent call posing as Jio Customer Care. The victim was tricked into recharging their SIM for ₹10, which resulted in a theft of ₹1,01,196 from their bank account. Following the complaint, the Cyber Cell tracked down the fraudster’s transaction and recovered ₹65,418 from a merchant who had been duped into
processing a purchase for an Apple iPhone 15. This amount was also credited back to the victim’s account.
In a separate incident, a complainant fell victim to a fake online job scheme and lost ₹5,430. The fraudster, impersonating company officials, conducted a bogus interview and demanded payment for registration. The Cyber Cell was able to recover ₹4,560, which was returned to the victim.
Another case saw a victim lose ₹850 after responding to a fraudulent advertisement on Instagram. The Cyber Cell quickly intervened, recovering the full amount and ensuring it was credited back to the victim’s account.
J&K Police urge the public to remain cautious against digital scams such as fake online trading, suspicious links, phishing SMS, unauthorized apps, fraudulent loan schemes, and deceptive calls. Citizens are advised not to share personal information online and to report any suspicious activities to the National Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930 or visit www.cybercrime.gov.in.(KINS)
