Police arrest two drug peddlers in Srinagar & Kulgam
Srinagar, Feb 25 (KINS): In a continued crackdown on drug smugglers and peddlers, police in Srinagar and Kulgam have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Srinagar, the police, along with a team from the CKR office, apprehended a drug peddler and seized a significant quantity of contraband. A police team, led by SHO PS Shalteng, set up a surprise checkpoint at Narbal Sozieth Bund and intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number CH01M-9496. The driver attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended by the alert police team. Upon searching the vehicle, authorities recovered 910 grams of a heroin-like substance. The accused, identified as Ishtiaq Ahmed Khowaja, son of Abdul Hamid Khowaja and a resident of Dildar Karnah, Kupwara, was arrested. The vehicle used in the crime was also seized.
Meanwhile, in Kulgam, police on patrol at General Road Malwan, within the jurisdiction of Police Station Devsar, intercepted a suspicious individual carrying a bag. Upon searching the bag, officers found 10 kilograms of a ground cannabis-like contraband substance. The suspect, identified as Arsalan Azad Ganie, son of Azad Ahmad Ganie and a resident of Malwan, was arrested on the spot.
Cases under relevant legal provisions have been registered at the respective police stations, and further investigations are underway. The police have reiterated their commitment to taking strict action against individuals involved in drug trafficking and other criminal activities. They have urged citizens to cooperate in eradicating the menace of drugs from society.(KINS)
