Food Safety Dept conducts inspections

Srinagar Mar 03 (KINS): The Food Safety team Srinagar Drug and Food Control org conducted inspections across various locations, collecting samples and taking action against non-compliant food businesses.

One specific tip led the team to raid a chicken shop at Chinar Chowk Rawalpora, where they found approximately 60 kg of stale chicken, 35 kg of internal chicken parts, and 25 kg of sheep fat in extremely poor condition, emitting a foul smell. The team promptly destroyed the contaminated products and shut down the shop.

To ensure public safety, the Food Safety department urges consumers to:

– Check product labels* for manufacturer details and use-by dates
– Inspect raw food like chicken, mutton, and fish for any signs of spoilage or foul odor
– Report concerns* to the department at 104, enabling swift action against violators under the Food Safety and Standards Act

Additionally, the department advises food businesses, particularly Nanwari, to:

– Discard non-food grade plastic containers*
– Maintain high standards of hygiene and sanitation within their premises
