CM’s Office Reacts to Mirwaiz’s Concerns Over Gulmarg Fashion Show
Srinagar, Mar 9: The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister’s Office on Sunday addressed Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s concerns over an alleged “obscene fashion show” in Gulmarg, acknowledging public outrage and assuring prompt action.
Responding on micro-blogging platform X (formerly Twitter), the CM’s Office stated: “The shock and anger are totally understandable. The images I have seen show a complete disregard for local sensitivities, especially during this holy month. My office is in touch with local authorities, and I have requested a report within 24 hours. Appropriate action will follow.”
Earlier, Kashmir’s chief cleric and Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, condemned the event, calling it “outrageous” and questioning its place in Kashmir’s sufi and saint tradition.
“Outrageous! That in the holy month of Ramzan, an obscene fashion show is organized in Gulmarg, with viral pictures and videos sparking public anger. How can such an act be tolerated in a valley known for its sufi, saint culture and deep religious outlook? Those responsible must be held accountable. Such obscenity in the name of tourism promotion is unacceptable in Kashmir,” Mirwaiz posted on X.
