Srinagar, July 15 (KINS): Ahead of the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, a delegation of military veterans and Veer Naris visited the Chinar Corps headquarters at Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar to pay tribute to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the Kargil War.
According to a Defence spokesperson, Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed to honour the courage, valour, selflessness and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces. The 27th anniversary of India’s victory in the 1999 Kargil War will be marked through a series of commemorative events in Srinagar, Drass and Kargil.
As part of the pre-Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations, the Akhil Bharatiya Poorva Sainik Seva Parishad has organised a visit for ex-servicemen to Srinagar, followed by visits to Drass and Kargil, to reinforce the spirit of patriotism and commemorate the sacrifices of the Armed Forces.
The delegation, comprising veterans and Veer Naris and led by Major General P. Vivekananda (Retd), arrived at Badami Bagh Cantonment on July 13. During the visit, the delegation paid homage at the Chinar War Memorial, toured the “Ibadat-e-Shahadat” museum, and experienced the rich heritage and culture of Jammu and Kashmir.
The spokesperson said the visit also highlighted the contribution of ex-servicemen in strengthening ties with society and promoting nation-building. The enthusiasm, camaraderie and unwavering commitment displayed by the veterans reflected the Armed Forces’ ethos of “Naam, Namak aur Nishaan” and reaffirmed the enduring spirit of “Once a Soldier, Always a Soldier.”(KINS)
