NC Leader Salman Sagar urges reconsideration of ban on AAC and JKIM

KINS DESK

Srinagar, Mar 12 (KINS): National Conference (NC) leader and Hazratbal MLA, Salman Ali Sagar, on Wednesday called for the central government to reconsider its decision to impose a ban on the Awami Action Committee (AAC), led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and the Jammu & Kashmir Ittihadul Muslimeen (JKIM), headed by Masroor Abbas Ansari.

Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly Secretariat in Jammu, Sagar emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sab Ka Saath, Sab Ka Vikas” should be inclusive of all walks of life. He expressed concern that the ban on these two organizations was not in line with this philosophy. “The ban on AAC and JKIM is not a good step and should be reconsidered,” Sagar stated.

Sagar also highlighted the recent visit of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to Delhi regarding the Waqf Bill, stressing his role as a religious and social leader. “Mirwaiz has always worked for the larger public good. His influence as a religious leader should be utilized for positive change,” he said. He further added, “Mirwaiz has a significant influence on the politics of Jammu and Kashmir, and the government should bring him into mainstream politics for the betterment of the people.”

On Tuesday, the central government imposed a five-year ban on the AAC and JKIM under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), citing the organizations’ involvement in activities threatening India’s sovereignty, integrity, and security.

Additionally, Sagar criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for what he termed political hypocrisy. “The BJP often criticizes dynastic politics, yet they have formed alliances with the PDP when it suited them,” he remarked.

When questioned about the ongoing power cuts in Srinagar during Ramadan and the hardships faced by residents, Sagar assured that he had raised the issue with the concerned authorities. “I have raised the matter, and honorable members have supported it. The issue will be resolved at the earliest,” he promised.(KINS)
