On April 15, 2025, Police Station Handwara received a written complaint from a woman (name withheld), a resident of Waghat Palpora, Magam. She reported that while she was in Handwara market, an unknown individual followed her and later snatched her handbag—containing gold ornaments—near the New Bus Stand, Handwara, before fleeing the scene.

Taking cognizance of the complaint, a case (FIR No. 76/2025) was registered under relevant sections of law, and an investigation was promptly launched.
