Enforcement Drive Conducted to Ensure Motor Vehicle Compliance and Fare Structure Adherence in Pulwama
PULWAMA JULY 04: In pursuance to directions issued by Secretary Transport Avny Lavasa (IAS) and Transport Commissioner J&K Vishesh Paul Mahajan (JKAS) an enforcement and inspection drive was conducted, across key routes in the district to ensure strict compliance with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and the officially notified fare structure for public transport and commercial vehicles.
During the operation, the enforcement team inspected e-rickshaws operating on vital routes, including the I.U.S.T, Awantipora and its adjoining areas. The inspection confirmed that operators were charging fares within the permissible rates notified by the competent authority. To maintain uniform implementation, copies of the approved fare rate lists were distributed to the presidents of the respective e-rickshaw associations for further dissemination among drivers.
The drive also included a targeted compliance inspection of the Al-Khudaam Transport Company at Khrew, Pampore, to verify adherence to transport regulations, permit validity, and general operational requirements. Additionally, the team audited the transport vehicles of two educational institutions, Salafia Model School and Valley Model Academy, assessing their alignment with prescribed safety standards and statutory guidelines.
In total, 100 vehicles were checked during the drive, resulting in 27 vehicles being e-challaned, one recommendation for registration certificate (RC) suspension, and an expected fine collection of ₹50,000. The operation concluded with the objective of promoting safe, lawful public transport operations and ensuring legal compliance.
