Srinagar, July 21 (KINS): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said the successful completion of the 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan has united all 20 districts of the Union Territory under a common goal of ensuring zero tolerance against narco-terrorism.
Addressing a function at SKICC Srinagar to mark the culmination of the campaign, the Lieutenant Governor said the anti-drug drive has evolved into a people’s movement with active participation from religious leaders, community elders, parents, teachers, women, youth clubs, senior citizens and ex-servicemen.
He particularly praised the role of mothers and sisters across Jammu and Kashmir, saying they played a vital part in identifying substance abuse and supporting efforts to eliminate the menace from society.
“The entire Union Territory salutes their courage and determination. Their continued participation will help create safer communities, break the stigma surrounding addiction and strengthen recovery and rehabilitation efforts,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of public participation, the Lieutenant Governor said the 100-day campaign proved that Jan Bhagidari is the strongest weapon against drug abuse. He said Panchayat Mahila Samitis, senior citizens, ex-servicemen and youth clubs emerged as guardians of a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir by actively supporting awareness and enforcement initiatives.
Sharing the achievements of the campaign, Sinha said unprecedented action was taken against the drug network during the last 100 days. He said 2,027 FIRs were registered, 2,301 drug smugglers were arrested and nearly 1,300 kilograms of narcotic substances were seized.
He further said properties worth around Rs 139 crore linked to drug smugglers were attached, action was taken against 254 chemist shops, 370 driving licences and 750 vehicle registrations were cancelled, around 3,000 Aadhaar cards were cancelled and recommendations were made for impounding 205 passports.
The Lieutenant Governor said these measures reflect the administration’s firm resolve to dismantle the narco ecosystem and protect the future of the youth.
He also announced that a new rehabilitation policy is being finalised to ensure long-term support for individuals affected by substance abuse. The proposed policy will follow a structured three-year rehabilitation cycle.
According to the Lieutenant Governor, the first phase will focus on medical treatment and counselling, the second phase will emphasise education, skill development and employment opportunities, while the third phase will provide long-term community support and relapse prevention.
He said tele-counselling helplines and mobile counselling units have already made assistance accessible even in remote areas, ensuring that help reaches every corner of Jammu and Kashmir.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment, Sinha said the fight against drugs will continue with greater public participation and stronger institutional support to build a healthier, safer and drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.(KINS)
