JKSA thanks EAM Jaishankar for securing release, return of Baramulla youth from Saudi Jail

Srinagar, July 20 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Monday thanked External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for securing the release and safe return of Amjad Ali, a Baramulla resident who spent nearly three months in a Saudi jail.

JKSA National Convenor Nasir Khuehami said Amjad, a healthcare professional in Dammam, was detained by Saudi authorities in March 2026 over a Facebook condolence post and remained in custody without being informed of the charges.

The Association said it had taken up the matter with the MEA, seeking urgent diplomatic intervention, consular access, and legal assistance. Following sustained diplomatic engagement, Amjad was released on June 25 and has safely returned to his home in Baramulla.

JKSA expressed gratitude to Dr. Jaishankar and the MEA for their humanitarian approach and sustained efforts, saying the intervention reunited Amjad with his family after months of uncertainty and distress. The Association also appreciated the media for highlighting the family’s concerns.(KINS)
