Illicit timber siezed in Rafiabad

Baramulla : A team of forest protection force (GAMMA) unit K07 siezed illicit timber on the intervening night of June 16 and 17 in Rafiabad Forest of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district officials said.

A forest official told Kashmir Indepth that a team of forest department siezed a vehicle bearing registration number JK02R 1756 laden with illicit green timber in Rafiabad on Sunday night. Officer said that however smugglers escaped from the spot.

Officer said that 80 cubic feet of green timber were seized from a Tipper in Tragpora forests in Rafiabad belt.

The timber had been cut down by smugglers in upper belt of Rafiabad and was being carried to urban areas officer added.

Officer further said that a forest damage / case has been registered and further investigations have been taken up to trace out the smugglers.
