Kerala Governor hails progress of J&K’s horti sector

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 06: Director Horticulture Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat participated in ‘International VAIGA Expo 2020-Kerala’ Workshop on Value Addition in Agriculture held in Kerala.

The Director was accompanied by Chief Horticulture officer, BandiporaMohd Ramzan War and Horticulture Development officer,Pulwama, Hilal Ahmad.

During the inaugural session of the workshop, the Governor, Kerala hailed the progress achieved under Horticulture in Jammu and Kashmir.

During the interaction, Director Horticulture Kashmir highlighted the importance of Horticulture sector in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the sector plays an important role in socio economic development besides contributing significantly to economy of the region.

He informed that the sector provides livelihood to 35 lakh population and contributes about 8 percent toward GSDP with annual turnover of 8500 crores. He added that more than 7 lakh farming families are directly or indirectly involved with the sector generating about 8.5 crore mandays annually.

Scholars and students from various Universities visited Kashmir fresh, dry fruit and processing product stalls set up by the Horticulture Department.
