J&K Cong Prez slams Govt’s security claims, calls for introspection

Srinagar Feb 04 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir Congress President Tariq Hamid Karra Tuesday criticized the Centre over its claims of improved security in the Union Territory, stating that the recent terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir expose the reality on the ground.

Addressing the media here according to news agency KINS, Karra termed the latest security incidents as “unfortunate”.

He asserted that while the government claims normalcy, the situation on the ground tells a different story.

“The Congress party has repeatedly highlighted that the government’s claims about security are contradictory to the actual situation. Not just in Kashmir but also in Jammu, such incidents continue to expose these claims,” he said.

Referring to the recent attack in Kulgam on former soldier he said that these events are a clear indication that the government’s narrative of peace in Jammu and Kashmir is misleading. “The government must introspect and present the true picture of the situation instead of creating a false narrative,” Karra stated.

On the functioning of the Jammu and Kashmir administration, he stressed the need for clarity in business rules, arguing that confusion in governance negatively impacts the common people, particularly the poor.

“The biggest casualty of unclear rules is the common man, who is made to run from one office to another without answers. The government must streamline governance for the welfare of the people,” he added.

Reacting to allegations from political rivals that discussing business rules implies acceptance of the revocation of Article 370, Karra refused to comment, saying, “That is their stand, I have nothing to say on it.”

On the broader political landscape, he also addressed concerns raised by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding electoral processes, stating that election outcomes reveal ground realities only after results are declared. “Each state has a different scenario; Haryana and Maharashtra have shown different trends. The Congress party has formed a committee to take up election-related concerns with the Election Commission,” he said.

When asked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to the United States, Karra remarked, “PM Modi is going as an uninvited guest. Earlier, he was not invited; now, we will see how he is welcomed there.” (KINS)
