SRINAGAR, JANUARY 26: In a deeply embarrassing moment for the district administration, the tricolor fell off the post as it was hoisted at the main R-Day function in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.
An eye witness said the tricolor fell from the post and landed on the ground after the district magistrate Rajouri pulled the string at the police lines.
He said the policemen deployed near the podium reacted immediately and attached the flag to the post.
Last year in August, the tri-colour fell to the ground after BJP chief Amit Shah tried to unfurl it at the party headquarters in New Delhi.
However, the video of the glitch soon made it to social media platforms and was picked up by the opposition to target the BJP.
The Congress party’s official handle shared the video on Twitter and said, “Jo desh ka jhanda nahi sambhal sakte, woh desh kya sambhalenge (those who can’t handle the national flag, how will they run the country)”.
In a similar incident, the flag fell off the post during August 15 function in 2016 after then chief minister Mehbooba Mufti tried to unfurl it at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar. (Agencies)
