Media men protest against thrashing of scribes

Demand action against involved cops

Srinagar, Dec 18 : The media persons in Srinagar on Wednesday staged a protest against the alleged thrashing of scribes on Tuesday by policemen when they were covering the clashes between students of Islamia College and forces at Hawal area.

According to the wire service—the media persons affiliated with different organizations assembled at the main road outside Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) office. They were carrying placards reading slogans ‘Don’t teach us journalism J&K Police, Stop harassing journalists’.

Three media persons- Azaan Javiad from ‘The Print’, Anees Zargr from ‘Newsclick’ and Hakeem Irfan from ‘Economic Times’ were allegedly beaten by the policemen when they were performing their professional duties.

The media persons here demanded action against the cops involved in thrashing of scribes.

Anees Zargar on the sidelines of silent protest said that a demonstration was held today against the highhandedness of policemen, adding that this highhandedness against journalists must be stopped forthwith.

He said that the higher authorities must take stringent action against the cops involved in beating the media men yesterday. (KNO)
