Solid Waste Management measures reviewed in Kupwara


Srinagar, Sep 07 (KINS): In a bid to ensure Solid Waste Management on scientific lines across the district, the District Administration Kupwara today convened a meeting to review the progress of Solid Waste Management Plan here.


The meeting reviewed the progress of Solid waste management plan in the district especially in major towns of Kupwara, Handwara and Langate and was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Kupwara, Nazir Ahmad Lone besides, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Handwara, Nazir Ahmad Mir was also present.


The meeting discussed various agenda points including control of illegal mining, cleanliness of identified Nallahs and riverbeds, solid waste management, sewerage drainage system, efforts by Geology and Mining and Pollution Control Board, Police Assistance and mass awareness.


The meeting was informed that state land measuring 35 Kanals have been identified at Kupwara, Handwara and Langate and handed over to concerned Municipalities for proper scientific disposal of the solid waste.  Out of 35 Kanals, 15 Kanals have been handed over to MC Handwara and 10 Kanals each to MC Kupwara and MC Langate.


The meeting was informed that MC Kupwara has acquired 3 hoppers for segregation of solid waste and JCB for lifting of garbage, besides, 1200 colour coded dustbins for proper disposal of solid waste in the town.
It was also given out that MC Kupwara will provide colour coded dustbins in all Educational institutions of the town including High and Higher Secondary schools within 10 days period.
He stressed upon Municipal Committees, I & FC and District Panchayat Officers to unanimously conduct mass awareness programmes with regard to utility of solid waste management, maintenance of proper hygiene and cleanliness.
The ADC asked Municipal Committees Handwara and Langate to strictly follow the guidelines of National Green Tribunal (NGT) and purchase proper equipment required for solid waste management. He also directed the Pollution Control Board to ensure proper checking of pollution control parameters and ensure feedback to the administration.
ADC Handwara also spoke in the meeting and stressed for proper checking of solid waste management by District Hospital Handwara. He also asked for proper checking of mining blocks in Handwara Sub division.
Among others, Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Bashir Ahmad Bhat, SDM Lolab, CEO, DPO, DFOs of 3 divisions of the district, DIO, EO MC Kupwara, besides, representatives from I&FC, PHE, PCB, MC Handwara and Langate besides other concerned attended the meeting.(KINS)
