Srinagar, Jan 19 (KINS): Police in its recent action against drug dealings in Kulgam have arrested one drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
Officers at a checkpoint established at Mirbazar Kulgam signalled a truck bearing registration No. JK14B-7896 to stop. However, the driver did not stop the truck and tried to flee from the spot but the alert police party chased the vehicle and stopped it. The driver has been identified as Somdutt resident of Paroa Jagir, Udhampur. During search, officers were able to recover 13.8Kgs of poppy straw in a gunny bag from the said vehicle. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Qazigund where he remains in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 09/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation in the matter has been initiated.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings.
