Jammu transporters announce one day strike

Srinagar Mar 27: Passenger bus operators in Jammu staged a large protest against the operation of Smart City e-buses, citing concerns over their livelihood. They announced a one-day token strike in opposition to the e-buses, accusing the administration of unfairly allowing them to operate on congested routes. Vijay Singh Chib, President of the association, highlighted that while an agreement was in place to limit e-bus operations to less congested routes, the administration violated this agreement by introducing them on busy routes. This move, they argue, negatively impacts private transporters’ ability to repay loans taken out for their vehicles and echoes previous issues faced by auto owners when e-rickshaws were introduced without addressing their concerns.
