Srinagar, Apr 03: In an effort to ensure peaceful and inducement-free General Elections 2024, the Election Commission of India (ECI) convened a crucial meeting with Chief Secretaries, Director Generals of Police of all States/UTs, and heads of central agencies.
The focus was on reviewing and assessing the law and order situation, prevention of illicit activities, and maintaining strict vigilance across inter-state and international borders.
Chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, the meeting aimed to foster seamless coordination and cooperation among stakeholders to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
CEC Rajiv Kumar underscored the commitment to conducting free, fair, peaceful, and inducement-free elections, urging all stakeholders to convert their resolve into concrete actions.
Key discussions included enhanced coordination among neighboring States/UTs, diligent deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and preemptive measures to address communal tensions.
The Commission emphasized the importance of strict vigilance to curb the movement of contraband items, including narcotics, liquor, arms, and explosives across borders. Directives were given for integrated check posts, sharing of intelligence, sealing of inter-state borders, and intensified patrolling.
Additionally, the meeting addressed logistical support, security measures for political functionaries, expenditure monitoring, and directives to central agencies for vigilant border surveillance. Attendees included heads of central agencies and top officials from various states and UTs, highlighting the collaborative effort to ensure a smooth and fair electoral process.
