DC Kupwara Assesses Flood Preparedness, Urges Vigilance in Handwara, Kupwara, & Lolab

KUPWARA, APRIL 29: Deputy Commissioner of Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan, embarked on a comprehensive tour today across flood-prone regions in Handwara, Kupwara, and Lolab, to evaluate the potential impact of incessant rainfall on the district’s flood preparedness.

Venturing into areas along Nallah Pohru including Kawari, Nutnoosa, and Drugmulla, the DC closely examined the flood situation, overseeing evacuation measures firsthand. Continuing her assessment, Sudan traversed through Khumryal, Shumryal, and Gund Jahangeer along Nallah Lolab, gathering crucial insights into the prevailing conditions.

Engaging directly with residents, Sudan visited Sogam and Khan Chak Takipora, emphasizing the imperative of proactive measures and swift response protocols in the face of emergencies.

During interactions with concerned departments, the DC underscored the importance of sustained vigilance and urged officials to mobilize resources promptly to address any emergent situations. Emphasizing coordination among stakeholders, Sudan advocated for seamless collaboration to ensure timely rescue and rehabilitation efforts.

Furthermore, Sudan appealed to the public to exercise caution near water bodies and Nallahs, encouraging them to promptly reach out to district or tehsil-level control rooms in case of emergencies or evacuation needs.

In parallel efforts, Additional Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Rouf Rehaman conducted assessments in various Kupwara areas, while ADC Handwara, Aziz Ahmad Rather, supervised evacuation measures in Kulangam, GMC Chowgal, Zachaldara, Chotipora, and Mawar. Similarly, SDM Karnah also conducted inspections across Karnah to gauge the situation firsthand.
