Tragic Bus Accident in Akhnoor: Several Feared Dead, Many Injured

Srinagar, May 30: In a heart-wrenching incident this afternoon, several passengers are feared dead and many others injured after a bus carrying pilgrims rolled down into a deep gorge in the Chungi Marh area of Akhnoor in Jammu district, officials reported.
The accident occurred on the Jammu-Poonch highway near Chungi Morh. The bus, packed with pilgrims, lost control and plunged into the gorge, leading to immediate fatalities and numerous injuries. Rescue operations were swiftly initiated, and the injured were transported to the Sub-District Hospital in Akhnoor. Those with critical injuries have been referred to the Government Medical College (GMC) in Jammu for advanced treatment.
Authorities are currently working to identify the deceased and injured. The police have taken cognizance of the incident and are investigating the cause of the accident.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his sorrow over the tragedy, stating, “The bus accident in Akhnoor, Jammu, is heart-rending. I condole the loss of lives and pray to the almighty to give the bereaved families the strength to bear the irreparable loss. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.” He assured that the administration is providing all possible assistance to the affected families and is ensuring that medical facilities are available to the injured.
