Srinagar, Sep 29 (KINS): A critical stretch of road between the Bemina Bypass and Bemina crossing is in dire need of repairs, with massive potholes causing daily traffic snarls and widespread frustration among commuters.
Despite temporary fixes in the past, the condition of the road has only worsened, leading residents and travelers to appeal to the district administration and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s office for immediate intervention.
The potholes, which have plagued the road for months, are not only causing frequent traffic jams but also pose a serious risk to vehicles, particularly two-wheelers. Local residents have reported significant wear and tear on their vehicles and fear that the situation could lead to accidents if left unaddressed.
Asim Shabir, a local scooter rider, shared his frustration with news agency KINS: “The potholes on this road are enormous and extremely troublesome for riders like me. Navigating them is not only inconvenient but also hazardous. I am constantly worried about damaging my scooter or getting into an accident.”
Although a temporary solution was attempted with some dust material being used to fill the potholes, the effort proved ineffective. The condition of the road remains the same, leaving residents disillusioned and worried about the safety of this heavily traveled route.
Zahoor Ahmad, another resident, expressed his concerns: “While we acknowledge the government’s efforts on other roads, this stretch seems to have been overlooked. The damage to vehicles and the constant traffic jams are becoming unbearable. We urge LG Manoj Sinha and the Chief Secretary to take immediate action to address this problem and speed up the macadamization process.”
The deteriorating state of the road, which serves as a major commuter route, has had a ripple effect on daily traffic, causing congestion at peak hours and increasing the risk of vehicle damage. Residents say the road’s importance has made the issue even more pressing.
“We appeal to the Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar and the LG administration to prioritize this road for repairs. The community is hopeful that the authorities will take action soon to ensure safer and smoother travel for everyone,” added a local shopkeeper from the area.
Residents are optimistic that their concerns will be heard, and the necessary steps will be taken to repair the road and ease the daily commute for thousands of people in the region.(KINS)
