Srinagar, Oct 25 (KINS): The residents of Gundjhangeer village in North Kashmir’s Hajin Sonawari area are grappling with daily challenges due to an incomplete drainage system, which has left roads prone to severe waterlogging.
As winter approaches, locals fear worsening conditions with upcoming rain and snow, which could render roads impassable.
Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, a prominent social activist, highlighted the residents’ distress, saying, “The incomplete drainage project has brought tremendous hardship. When it rains, the roads become so waterlogged that movement is nearly impossible, ” Zahoor told news agency KINS.
He explained that despite two contractors being assigned to the project, it remains unfinished, leaving the community struggling.
Bhat appealed to newly elected MLAs Nizamuddin Bhat of Bandipora and Advocate Hilal Akbar Lone of Sonawari to intervene and prioritize the project’s completion, especially as it impacts hundreds of families’ access to essential services.
The villagers also called on the concerned authorities, including the Deputy Commissioner of Bandipora, to address their long-standing grievance. “We’re urging the administration to step in immediately and complete this drainage system so that we don’t have to endure these conditions every winter,” said a local resident.
With winter fast approaching, Gundjhangeer’s residents hope their plea will be heard, preventing another season of hardship and helping restore normalcy to daily life.(KINS)
