Mirwaiz welcomes SC decision over bulldozer policy Says ‘political interference in Waqf Board is unacceptable’

KINS Correspondent

Srinagar, Nov 18 (KINS): Welcoming the Supreme Court’s recent decision on the controversial bulldozer policy, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday criticized the targeted actions against a particular community.
Mirwaiz urged political parties to unite in opposition to the policy, which he described as discriminatory and detrimental to communal harmony, news agency KINS reported.
The Supreme Court has banned the practice of “bulldozer justice,” declaring instant demolitions of accused individuals’ homes unconstitutional and drafting norms to prevent such actions.
Mirwaiz also expressed concerns over the increasing political interference in the Waqf Board, stating that such actions are unacceptable.
“While reforms for the betterment of the Waqf can be considered, interference by political parties is unjustifiable,” he said.
He called on political parties to voice their opposition and safeguard the sanctity of religious and community institutions.
Highlighting the tensions between India and Pakistan, Mirwaiz stressed the need for dialogue to resolve all issues.
“The Union Territory administration has limited powers to address major concerns. India and Pakistan must engage in dialogue to resolve and address these issues,” he stated, adding that the prolonged uncertainty in Jammu and Kashmir continues to affect the lives of its people.
He lauded the five-year ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, describing it as a “heave of relief” for residents living along the borders.
“However, there is a need to take further steps, such as resuming cross-border trade and bus services, to improve the lives of people on both sides,” he added. (KINS)
