Srinagar, Dec 02 (KINS): Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, on Monday commended the Jammu and Kashmir Police for their ongoing crackdown on the inter-state drug network.
Addressing a large congregation at Eidgah as per news agency KINS, Mirwaiz emphasized the urgent need for collective action to address the growing societal issue of drug addiction.
Highlighting the alarming statistic that over 1.5 million people in the region are affected by drug addiction, Mirwaiz called for a united effort to combat this epidemic.
He urged that the extensive network of mosques across the region could play a pivotal role in this fight, stating, “Mosque committees can collaborate to implement effective strategies to tackle drug addiction in their respective areas.”
He added that community involvement is crucial, with mosque committees helping monitor and rehabilitate individuals affected by addiction.
In his address, Mirwaiz also expressed appreciation for the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s intensified efforts against drug trafficking.
He acknowledged the recent arrests of several drug dealers and the confiscation of their properties, stating,
“It is encouraging to see the administration taking decisive steps. When good measures are taken for the welfare of our society, they should be appreciated by all.”(KINS)
