Srinagar, Dec 11 (KINS): The High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) in Gulmarg commemorated its Platinum Jubilee on Wednesday, marking 75 years of excellence in specialized training and operational achievements in mountain, snowbound, and glaciated terrains. Established in 1948 as the Army Ski Training School, HAWS has grown into a world-renowned institution, imparting cutting-edge combat and survival skills to the Indian Army, Central Paramilitary Forces, Special Missions, and personnel from friendly foreign nations.
The celebration was a tribute to HAWS’ distinguished legacy in national defense, adventure sports, and mountaineering. The school’s critical contributions to landmark military operations, including Operation Meghdoot in 1984 and Operation Vijay in 1999, were highlighted. The event honored the “Mountain Warriors” whose unwavering bravery and skill have upheld the school’s mission and safeguarded India’s interests in challenging high-altitude environments.
HAWS has earned an illustrious record of gallantry awards, commendation plaques, and achievements in adventure climbing and winter sports. Known as the “White Devils,” the institution symbolizes resilience, innovation, and excellence amidst some of the harshest terrains and climates in the world.
