Srinagar, Dec 30 (KINS): National Conference (NC) leaders Shameema Firdous, Salman Sagar, and Tanvir Sadiq have clarified their stance on the ongoing debate regarding the exclusion of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s birth anniversary from Jammu and Kashmir’s holiday list.
While expressing their support for the inclusion of the Maharaja’s holiday, the leaders emphasized that Sheikh Abdullah’s anniversary should also be recognized as an official holiday.
Speaking to the media as per news gathering agency KINS, NC leaders stated that while they are not opposed to the Maharaja’s holiday, it is equally important to honor the contributions of Sheikh
Mohammad Abdullah, whose leadership and vision were instrumental in shaping modern Jammu and Kashmir. “We are not against the Maharaja’s holiday, but Sheikh Abdullah’s birth anniversary is a crucial part of our history and identity,” said Shameema Firdous, adding that both figures hold significance in the region’s development.
Salman Sagar and Tanvir Sadiq echoed similar sentiments, calling for a balanced approach that recognizes the legacies of both leaders. “Sheikh Abdullah’s contributions to social justice, land reforms, and the political fabric of Jammu and Kashmir are undeniable. His anniversary deserves to be recognized alongside other important dates in our history,” said Sagar.
The NC leaders urged the administration to reconsider the decision and ensure that Sheikh Abdullah’s anniversary is acknowledged as an official holiday, reinforcing its historical importance in J&K (KINS).
