Police Arrest Six Drug Peddlers; Contraband Substances Seized

Srinagar, Jan 4 (KINS): As part of ongoing efforts to eliminate drug-related activities, police have arrested six drug peddlers across the Kashmir valley and recovered significant quantities of contraband substances.
Srinagar: A police team led by the SHO of Police Station Shalteng intercepted a suspicious individual during a surprise checkpoint at the Lawaypora/Mujgund axis. The accused, identified as Mohammad Yaseen Bhat alias Shaka, son of Ghulam Ahmed Bhat of Astan Mohalla Gundhasibhat, Srinagar, was found in possession of approximately 22 grams of heroin-like substance.
In another incident, a police team from Police Station Zadibal apprehended Waseem Ahmad Bafanda, son of Ghulam Ahmad of Dangerpora Malbagh Hazratbal, during a checkpoint at Sazgari Pora. Upon search, officers recovered 4 grams of heroin and ₹3,020 in cash.
Sopore: At Adipora crossing, a police team under the supervision of SDPO Sopore Sarfaraz Bashir (JKPS) intercepted Owais Bashir Shakari of Sher-Colony, Sopore. A search revealed 5.10 grams of a brown sugar-like substance in his possession.
Awantipora: During naka checking in Tral, police apprehended Aqib Qadir Sofi, son of Ghulam Qadir Sofi of Gang Tral. Officers seized approximately 1 kg of powdered charas-like substance from his possession.
Baramulla: At Bela Crossing Boniyar, police intercepted Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh, son of Tariq Ahmad of Hundi Nowshera, and recovered 50 grams of charas-like substance. Following his disclosure, a subsequent search of the residence of Shameema Begum, wife of Mohd Maqbool Sheikh of Lari Kasi Boniyar, led to the seizure of an additional 62 grams of charas-like substance and 1 kg of charas powder.
All the accused have been arrested, and cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered at their respective police stations. Investigations are ongoing to dismantle the broader drug nexus.
The police urge citizens to report drug-related activities or other crimes to the nearest police station or dial 112. Cooperation from the community is essential in eradicating this menace.(KINS)
