Jammu, Jan 06 (KINS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Jammu Railway Division through virtual mode today.
The inauguration marks a significant milestone for Jammu and Kashmir, enhancing its connectivity with the rest of the country.
On the occasion, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister for dedicating the new division to the Union Territory.
“This new division is strategically important. It will stimulate economic growth, generate employment, boost infrastructure development, and create new tourist circuits,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
Highlighting the transformative impact of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), LG Sinha noted that the project will seamlessly connect Kashmir to Kanyakumari, fostering tourism, trade, and employment opportunities.
“By linking Kashmir to the national railway network, Indian Railways has laid the foundation for a prosperous and integrated future for Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.
Several ongoing and proposed projects were also discussed, including new rail lines between Baramulla-Uri, Jammu-Poonch, and Pathankot-Leh. The doubling of the Baramulla-Banihal line is under consideration, alongside other connectivity-enhancing initiatives.
The Lieutenant Governor also emphasized the role of improved transportation in unlocking the economic potential of the region, boosting industrialization, and enabling socio-economic upliftment.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh and other dignitaries, including political leaders and senior officials, attended the event. The new division comprises 742.1 km of railway lines, including major sections like Pathankot-Jammu-Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla. (KINS)
