Qazigund, Jan 06 (KINS): Amid freezing temperatures and water supply challenges in the Kashmir Valley, the Jal Shakti Department Qazigund has issued a public advisory to prevent the freezing and bursting of water pipes during the ongoing harsh winter conditions.
In a handout shared with news agency KINS, the department stated, “All water supply schemes are operating smoothly, and water is being supplied as per schedule. However, some households are experiencing issues due to frozen connection pipes, likely caused by extreme cold affecting exposed or uninsulated pipes.”
To address the issue, the department has advised residents to take the following precautions:Insulate exposed water pipes using foam, cloth, or other suitable materials.Allow a small trickle of water to flow through taps to prevent freezing.Use safe methods, such as warm water or a hairdryer, to thaw frozen pipes. Avoid using open flames. Ensure proper maintenance of water connections to avoid further complications.
“We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring a continuous water supply during this cold spell. For further assistance, please contact the relevant department,” the advisory added.
Meanwhile, a senior official from Jal Shakti (PHE) Sub-division Qazigund assured that the department is committed to taking all necessary steps to ensure a smooth water supply across the Qazigund belt, despite the challenges posed by the severe weather.(KINS)
