Street food vendor booked for spreading infection after ‘dead rats found in cooking oil

Srinagar, Jan 31 (KINS): Authorities have registered an FIR against a street food vendor in Srinagar’s Hazratbal area after a viral video allegedly showed two dead rats in the oil used for frying snacks.

The FIR (No. 10/2025) has been lodged at Police Station Nigeen under Section 271 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to an unlawful and negligent act likely to spread infection, news agency KINS reported.

The incident sparked public outrage after the disturbing video circulated on social media, raising serious concerns about food hygiene and public health risks. Officials said they are investigating the matter and taking necessary action to prevent such violations in the future.
