Our goal is to create a J&K where no life is lost to terrorism: Amit Shah
Srinagar, Feb 24 (KINS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah reaffirmed the Narendra Modi government’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the goal is to create a region where no life is lost to terrorism.
Speaking in New Delhi on Monday, he emphasized that the entire country looks at the people of J&K with love and respect, and they have equal rights across India.
Addressing young participants of the Watan Ko Jano youth exchange program, Shah stressed that once terrorism ends, there will be no need for police deployment in the region. “The day is not far when peace will be so deep-rooted that security forces won’t be required,” he told the youth, urging them to spread the message of peace upon returning home.
Shah highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s abrogation of Article 370 had brought equal rights to J&K residents. “Earlier, you had rights over Jammu and Kashmir, but today, you have the same rights over the entire country, just like people from Delhi, Rajasthan, or Gujarat,” he said.
He reiterated that violence had only brought destruction to the region, with over 36,000 lives lost to terrorism over the decades. However, under Modi’s leadership, J&K has witnessed a transformation with new roads, hospitals, bridges, and overall infrastructure development.
Encouraging the youth to explore India beyond J&K, Shah said, “Our country is our home. If you don’t step out, you won’t truly know India. Plan a visit to another state during your school vacations—even if you have to argue with your family, make sure you go.”
Shah highlighted key achievements in the past 10 years, including:
End of Terrorism & Violence: Incidents of bomb blasts and stone pelting have ceased. Democratic Participation: Over 36,000 local representatives elected as panchs and sarpanchs.
Cultural Revival: Public celebrations like ‘tazia’ processions and cinema screenings have resumed. Educational Growth: 24 new colleges, eight universities, two AIIMS, and two IIMs have been established.
Major Infrastructure Projects: J&K is now home to the world’s tallest railway bridge and Asia’s longest tunnel.
Shah concluded by urging the youth to focus on education and take advantage of the opportunities available across India under the Modi government. “As India progresses, you will progress too. A prosperous and modern India means a prosperous future for the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.(KINS)
