Srinagar, April 24 (KINS): In the wake of the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah convened an all-party meeting at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) on Thursday evening. The gathering culminated in the unanimous adoption of a resolution condemning the attack and reaffirming Jammu & Kashmir’s commitment to peace, unity, and communal harmony.
According to details, the resolution described the April 22 attack as a “barbaric act” and an “assault on the values of Kashmiriyat and the idea of India.” It conveyed deep sorrow over the killing of defenceless civilians and called for collective resolve in the face of terrorism.
The resolution strongly denounced the violence, stating that “such cowardly acts have no place in a civilised society and strike at the core of Kashmir’s legacy of compassion and co-existence.” Leaders across party lines expressed shock and grief, pledging unwavering support to efforts aimed at bringing the perpetrators to justice.
A special tribute was paid to Syed Adil Hussain Shah, a local horse ride operator who lost his life while bravely confronting the terrorists in an attempt to protect tourists. The resolution hailed him as “a symbol of Kashmiriyat and Kashmir’s timeless hospitality,” affirming that his courage would serve as an enduring source of inspiration.
The resolution extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and appreciated the people of Jammu & Kashmir for standing in solidarity with the victims. It also lauded the peaceful protests held across the region as a spontaneous expression of public outrage and unity.
In a gesture of solidarity beyond the region, the resolution appealed to state governments and Union Territories across India to ensure the safety and dignity of Kashmiri students and citizens living outside J&K. It called on authorities to prevent any backlash in the form of harassment, discrimination, or intimidation.
The meeting concluded with a united call to maintain peace and resist attempts to disturb communal harmony. Political leaders, religious figures, youth groups, civil society members, and the media were urged to act responsibly and promote calm during these testing times.
