Govt schools showing remarkable improvement under NEP: LG Sinha

Srinagar, Oct 27 (KINS): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday said that the education system in Jammu and Kashmir is undergoing a major transformation with the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), leading to notable improvement in the performance of government schools across the Union Territory.

Speaking at an event at Kothi Bagh Higher Secondary School in Srinagar, the LG said the NEP has brought a positive shift in the academic landscape as schools are gradually moving away from outdated learning patterns and adopting innovative and student-centric approaches. “The performance of government schools is improving remarkably with the successful implementation of NEP,” he said, according to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).

Sinha said the government is committed to bringing government schools at par with private institutions by improving infrastructure, upgrading teaching methods, and ensuring holistic development of students. He stressed the importance of recognising the diverse talents of children rather than focusing solely on academic performance. “We must identify and nurture the inherent talent of our students. Schools should help shape their skills so they can excel in their chosen fields,” he added.

Emphasising the need for a multidisciplinary approach in education, the LG said the time has come to move beyond the traditional mindset of securing degrees and instead equip students with multiple skills, creativity, and critical thinking abilities.

Highlighting the achievements of female students in J&K, Sinha said girls have been consistently excelling in academics as well as co-curricular activities. “Girls in Jammu and Kashmir are performing exceptionally well and contributing to the development of the nation. They have become an inspiration for many,” he said.

The LG reiterated that the government will continue to strengthen the school education sector to nurture young minds and prepare them to meet future challenges with confidence. (KINS)
