No major snowfall expected in J&K before December 15: Sonam Lotus

KINS Correspondent

Srinagar, Nov 18 (KINS): Renowned Meteorologist Sonam Lotus on Tuesday said that no major snowfall is expected in Jammu & Kashmir until December 15.

He also cautioned that temperatures are likely to dip further in the coming days, intensifying the ongoing cold wave especially across the Valley.

Lotus, while speaking to the news-gathering agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), said that Jammu and Kashmir is most likely to experience dry weather through the end of November, with no major snowfall expected until December 15.

He added that although the skies will remain clear and the weather stable, the cold will become more severe, particularly during the mornings and evenings.

“It will remain dry and clear,” he said. “But the cold will intensify in the mornings and evenings. The minimum temperature may go down further — possibly touching minus three to four degrees.”

The chill has already deepened across Kashmir, with residents beginning to stock up on heating gadgets and winter essentials. Calm nights and clear skies have allowed temperatures to fall sharply, making early mornings especially harsh. In several higher reaches, frost formation has increased over the past few days.

Sonam Lotus clarified that snowfall is possible only after mid-December, but ruled out any significant or widespread snowfall in the early part of winter.

“After mid-December there are chances of snowfall,” he said. “But there is no forecast of any good snowfall in December.”

Lotus, known for his accurate local weather assessments, has previously cautioned about prolonged dry spells in Jammu and Kashmir.

He as per KINS reiterated that long-range predictions remain uncertain but current data shows no signs of a strong snowfall system approaching in the coming weeks.(KINS)
