Baramulla, February 7 (KINS): Chairperson of the District Development Council (DDC) Baramulla, Safeena Beigh, on Saturday expressed concerns over political interference regarding the establishment of the Ayush Ayurvedic Medical College in the district, stating that some individuals are attempting to politicize the issue.
Beigh, who is set to complete her five-year term as Chairperson on February 24, said that the establishment of the medical college was made possible after she took up the matter with both the Central Government and Lieutenant Governor. She clarified that the medical college was initially allocated for Kansipora but is now under threat of being shifted to Sopore due to political maneuvering.
“I believe some individuals are misleading even Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on this matter. My intention is not to take credit or cut the ribbon, but I urge everyone to avoid playing politics with this important development,” Beigh stated in an interview with the news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).
She said that the medical college is intended for the benefit of all residents of Baramulla, with people from every part of the district set to gain from its establishment.
In addition to the medical college, she also highlighted other significant achievements during her tenure, including the sanctioning of the Baramulla National Highway project and notable improvements in sports and education infrastructure in the district. She said her dedication to continuing the developmental legacy of her husband Muzaffar Hussain Beigh and ensuring the district’s growth.
“The development of Baramulla has always been my priority, and I have worked hard to make sure it progresses,” she concluded.
