BJP suspends Pulwama district president over “extortion FIR”
Srinagar, Aug 11 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has suspended its Pulwama district president, Er. Syed Showkat Gayoor Andrabi, from all party posts following the registration of an FIR alleging extortion against him, according to a BJP statement.
The party said the action was taken on the recommendation of BJP J&K Chief Spokesperson and Disciplinary Committee Chairman Advocate Sunil Sethi. J&K BJP president Sat Sharma subsequently ordered Gayoor’s immediate suspension pending disciplinary proceedings.
Sethi said the allegations were serious and that the party would not compromise on integrity, accountability and ethical conduct. He clarified that the suspension was an organisational measure and should not be viewed as a verdict on the criminal case.
He said the disciplinary proceedings would be conducted in accordance with the BJP’s constitution and established procedures, giving Gayoor an opportunity to present his case.
The BJP said the action reflects its commitment to organisational discipline and maintaining public confidence while ensuring due process and natural justice.(KINS)
