Srinagar, Aug 11 (KINS): Er. Mudasir Lolabi, Chairman of Congress (RGPRS), J&K, has urged the government to hold Panchayat and Municipal elections in Jammu and Kashmir without any further delay.
He in a statement issued to KINS said the absence of elected local representatives is affecting development work at the grassroots level. He also said that ineffective Gram Sabhas are reducing public participation and transparency in Panchayat affairs.
Lolabi said elected Panchayats and Municipalities are important for strengthening grassroots democracy and called for free, fair and timely elections in J&K.
“People have the right to choose their representatives and take part in decisions related to their villages. Local democracy cannot be kept on hold indefinitely,” he said.(KINS)
