Srinagar, Oct 30 (KINS): Abdullah Mir, a resident of Tanghat in Bandipora, has been living in a small government-built shed for years due to a lack of permanent housing.
With winter approaching, Mir’s situation is becoming more difficult. Lacking land or a home, he struggles daily to support his family.
“If it weren’t for the media, no one would have helped me,” he told news agency KINS, expressing his disappointment over the lack of support from local authorities.
He said that despite media coverage, authorities were yet to respond effectively.
“No one is bothered to help me in this situation despite, the matter is well in the notice of the concerned authorities”.
Mir raises concerns about the local leaders’ commitment to addressing the needs of vulnerable citizens.
Assistant Commissioner of Revenue, Bandipora, Shabir Ahad Wani when contacted, clarified, “For an individual to qualify for land allotment, they must be included in the list. We assess each applicant’s status to ensure they are truly landless or homeless, in line with the guidelines set for land provision. The land was distributed to 1,022 beneficiaries based on the lists we received. If the individual in question is listed under PMAY (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana), the matter falls under the purview of the Assistant Commissioner of Development,” he told KINS.
Irfan Ahmad, recently appointed as the Assistant Commissioner of Development Bandipora assures that he will seriously look into the matter. (KINS)
