Administration working on war footing to restore essential services in Jammu division; 40% power supply restored, says Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh

Jammu, Aug 27 (KINS): Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh on Wednesday said that the administration is working on a war footing to restore essential services in Jammu division, where continuous rainfall and flash floods have severely disrupted normal life.

In an update as per news agency KINS, the Union Minister acknowledged receiving numerous calls and messages from people across the country who have been unable to contact their families in Jammu.

He attributed the communication breakdown to the collapse of telecom networks in the region.

“Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, has been advised to ensure that public helpline numbers are restored on priority so that at least one viable channel of communication is available for people to convey messages,” Dr Jitendra Singh said.

He added that the official has assured efforts to make this possible within an hour.

The minister also informed that mobile services, which were badly affected throughout the day, have started getting restored in phases after 4 pm.

On the power situation, Singh said nearly 40 percent of electricity supply has been restored.

However, he cautioned against rushing the process, citing widespread waterlogging and the imminent risk of short circuits.

Appealing for calm, Jitendra Singh urged residents to remain patient and assured them that “every administrative functionary is on the job” to deal with the crisis.

The heavy downpour has led to flooding, landslides, and large-scale disruption across Jammu and Kashmir, forcing closure of schools, blocking highways, and leaving several areas without basic facilities.(KINS)
