Police, District administration retrieve State Land worth 18 Lakh from Drug Peddler in Kulgam

Kulgam, May 13 (KINS): In continuation of the ongoing drive against drug trafficking and illegal encroachments under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir campaign, a police team from Jammu and Kashmir Police along with officials of the District Administration retrieved 06 marlas of State land worth approximately ₹18 lakh under Survey No. 303 at Wanpora village in Kulgam district.
The land was found under illegal encroachment by an alleged drug peddler, identified as Mohd. Ramzan Sheikh, son of Juma Sheikh, a resident of Wanpora. He is involved in FIR No. 69/2023 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act and FIR No. 20/2023 under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Qaimoh.
Officials said the retrieved land has been taken into possession by the concerned authorities under relevant provisions of the J&K Land Revenue Act and other applicable laws. Necessary notices have also been affixed at the site, while further legal proceedings will follow as per law.
Police said the crackdown against drug peddlers and anti-social elements will continue, particularly against those attempting to illegally occupy State land or generate proceeds through unlawful activities.
J&K Police also appealed to the public to cooperate by sharing credible information related to drug trafficking and other criminal activities to help ensure a safer and drug-free society.(KINS)
