February 26: Continuing its drive against the drug peddlers in Kulgam, Police have arrested three drug peddlers and recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.
Police Post Frisal received specific information that some individuals identified as Javid Ahmad Dar Pervaiz Ahmad Dar and Imtiyaz Ah Mir @Pinna all the residents of Kujjar are involved in illegal business of Poppy straw at large scale and have stored a huge quantity of poppy straw in residential house of Pervaiz Ahmad Dar resident of Kujjar Yaripora. Accordingly, a team headed by DySP PC Hatipora Shri Sumit Kumar-JKPS along with concerned Magistrate and SHO PS Yaripora and IC PP Frisal raided the said house; however the above mentioned three persons fled from the spot. During search of the said house, 11 gunny bags filled with Poppy Straw weighing 200Kgs, a digital weighing machine and a grinder machine were recovered.
Case FIR No. 10/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Yaripora and investigation is in progress. Efforts are on to affect the arrest of the accused persons who are at large.
Meanwhile, during surprise checking near Hadigam crossing by police party headed by SHO PS Kulgam and under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Kulgam Shri Ghulam Mohd Bhat-JKPS intercepted two persons who were roaming in suspicious conditions. During search, officers were able to recover 15gms of Heroin and 350gms of Charas from their possession. They have been identified as Hilal Ahmad Mir and Shahnawaz Ahmad Zargar both the residents of Okey Kulgam. Both the accused have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 22/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Kulgam and investigation is in progress.
Similarly, officers at the checkpoint established at Humshalibugh near Kokergund crossing intercepted a Santro car bearing registration No. JK01J- 6526 driven by Inam Ahmad Malik resident of Pinjoora Shopian. During search, 13 bottles of psychotropic substances (Welcyrex) were recovered from his possession. The accused has been arrested and the vehicle used in commission of crime has also been seized.
In this regard, case FIR No. 09/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Yaripora and investigation taken up.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
