Fierce gunfight breaks out in Budgam village

Srinagar, June 28 : A fierce gunfight broke out between militants and goverment forces at Gund Checkpora area of Kanipora, Nowgam in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday pre-dawn hours.

Reports reaching said that a joint team of army’s 50 RR, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation at Gund Checkpora area of Kanipora, Nowgam late last night.

Confirming it, a police official told that the cordon was laid following inputs about the presence of some militants.

He said that as the joint team intensified searches at around 3:15 am, the hiding militants opened indiscriminate fire and hurled grenade, the fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.

When reports last came in the firefight was going on. (GNS)
